Mind- Body Balance: Insights from a Cardiologist and Ayurvedic Doctor on Holistic Health

Ayurvedic doctor and Hypnotherapist on holistic health

In an enlightening interview with Dr. med. univ. Warren Ashley, we inspire you to adopt a fresh perspective on health.

What does health mean to you personally? Take a moment to consider your own definition—it reveals a lot about who you are.

As we delve deeper into our conversation, we explore the concept of holistic health. We may have arrived at a definition that differs from conventional views.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines holistic health as “dealing with or treating the whole of something or someone.” Yet, if we take this literally, why do some health practices so adamantly exclude others? Is there a way for Western and Eastern medicine to find common ground? Often, practitioners from each school of thought hold strong opinions and dismiss the other side. But imagine the possibilities if we allowed ourselves to learn from one another.

True holistic practice—embracing the concept of being WHOLE—requires us to approach health from all angles. Our conclusion is that both medical approaches can complement each other when we accept their differing perspectives and languages.

Dr. Warren Ashley and I consider ourselves bridge builders. I personally use Hypnosis to bridge Yoga and CBT, he uses other tools. But we both believe that a balanced and healthy mind- connection is needed for our well-being.

“Health is something we experience, not just something we learn.” As Dr. Ashley stated, “It is not me, as a doctor, who is healing; rather, the person in front of me is the true healer.” Our goal is to empower individuals to connect with this truth and embrace their own responsibility for their health.

Joy plays a vital role in this journey. Can we find joy in what we do?

Dr. Ashley adds, “If we think in terms of community, it’s not just about us. While we all desire health, it’s also about the wellbeing of nature and those around us.”

For my interview partner, health equates to happiness—which I wholeheartedly agree with—and I would add freedom to that definition.

Yoga represents a celebration of the freedom and joy we experience in our minds, bodies, hearts, and souls. This conversation has been pure joy, and I’m sure more will follow.

What are your thoughts on health, on holistic health?
