How Hypnosis Helped Me Quit Smoking—And How You Can Quit, Too!

stop smoking

There’s nothing quite like the shock of realizing you’ve been a smoker for nearly two decades…

After 18 years of lighting up, I’d tried everything. From reading Allen Carr’s famous book to obsessively drinking water to avoid weight gain—none of it worked. It felt impossible to quit until I found hypnosis. And finally—relief.

Understanding Smoking Addiction and Why You Should Quit

Over the years, I’ve changed many unhealthy habits, but quitting smoking was by far the hardest. Sounds familiar? Here’s why.

Nicotine (which is actually a pesticide) is a highly addictive chemical, and on top of that, cigarettes are highly poisonous as well. They contain over 5,000 other toxic substances. Fifty of these are known carcinogens—substances that may increase your risk of cancer.

You wouldn’t willingly give your pet or child something that dangerous, so why do it to yourself?

The truth is, smoking has become so normalized in society that it feels almost impossible to avoid. We pick it up when we’re young and often don’t know how to cope with stress, boredom, or anxiety without it. Before we realize it, the question becomes: without the cigarette, how do I manage social anxiety or moments of restlessness?

Cigarettes are deceptive. I would argue that cigarettes are the only drugs in the world that don’t deliver what they promise. In fact, they do exactly the opposite!

They promise relaxation, yet they stimulate the nervous system…

They claim rebellion, yet the only thing they change is the money in the pockets of Big Tobacco…

Think about it—if a drug dealer sold you a product that did the opposite of what it promised, would you keep coming back? Cigarettes don’t deliver what we think they will, but still, we risk our health and our lives for nothing in return. Not my idea of fun…anymore.

My First Experience with Hypnosis

I had never tried hypnosis before.

I came across a hypnotherapist through a personal recommendation and arrived at his office skeptical but curious. A slow-speaking, relaxed, almost eerie man welcomed me into his therapy room. It felt spooky… Was he hypnotized himself?

I definitely had my doubts, but I’m a curious mind, so we began. He asked me about my reasons for quitting smoking and led me into a state of deep relaxation. I remember feeling an immediate sense of calm, and as he spoke, he helped me visualize my reasons for quitting in vivid, exaggerated images.

When I emerged from hypnosis, I didn’t think much of it. As a yogi, I use visualizations all the time. But what happened next was mind-blowing…

Nearby, a friend invited me for a glass of champagne. It was a hot summer day, and I was sipping my bubbles. Every smoker knows: the most perfect moment for a cigarette. But I didn’t feel the slightest urge to light up. I was stunned.

I became a nonsmoker the second I left that therapy room, and I can’t even remember the exact year it happened. When you’re addicted, you count every smoke-free week, day, or minute. So you do as an ex-smoker. But I never looked back, like a nonsmoker. It was normal not to smoke.

It was an exciting summer, that’s all I remember!

The Most Effective Way to Quit Smoking

A study by New Scientist (vol. 136) revealed that hypnosis is the most effective method for quitting smoking, with a 60% success rate after a single session. That’s far higher than acupuncture (24%), nicotine replacement therapy (10%), or willpower alone (6%).

But even 60% may not sound like enough, which is why I’ve developed a program that combines hypnosis with additional tools like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques to make sure you succeed. But first: what happens when you quit smoking?

Your Body Has the Power to Heal

The minute you put down your last cigarette, your body starts to heal.

Within 20 minutes, your blood pressure and heart rate normalize. After 48 hours, your sense of taste and smell begins to improve. In just a few weeks, lung function increases by up to 30%. And after a year, your risk of heart attack drops by 50%.

Even if you’ve smoked for 40 years, your lungs can heal. If you strengthen your lungs through exercise and breathing techniques, the recovery process will accelerate.

However, nicotine is a tough adversary, and there may be withdrawal symptoms. The physical symptoms peak in the first three days and then subside, but for many, the mental addiction is the real challenge.

In my experience, there are two main groups:
• Those who struggle most in the first few days of breaking the habit.
• Those who feel challenged around 3 months in, when the initial excitement fades and real-life situations test their resolve.

That’s why I’ve included a 1-hour follow-up session in my Smoking Cessation Program. Whether you need support in those crucial first few days or months down the line, I’ll be there for you.

Let’s Make It Happen: A Sneak Peek into My Smoking Cessation Program

If you’re ready to quit smoking, I’m here to guide you with the most effective tools available. My personalized program includes a transformative 3-hour session packed with proven techniques from hypnosis, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and mindfulness.

You will leave feeling empowered, clear-headed, and strong, with a deep understanding of what smoking—and not smoking—truly means to you. This insight is the foundation for lasting change.

Before your session, you’ll complete a few preparatory exercises and a self-hypnosis that I’ll send you. You’ll also receive a recording of your session, allowing you to revisit and deepen the experience in the comfort of your home. Plus, a free follow-up session ensures you stay on track as you start your smoke-free life.

Worried about failing? Don’t be. Repeated attempts to quit can be a strong indicator of future success.

Never give up on giving up!

Quitting smoking is more than just saying goodbye to cigarettes; it’s about stepping into a healthier, happier future. It’s saying hello to a new, more powerful version of yourself.

This Program is Not for You If…

  • …your parents, friends, or partner signed you up.
It’s wonderful to have supportive people around you, but for hypnosis to be effective, quitting must be your decision. This is your life, and your free will is key to lasting change.

What about vaping?
While vaping is marketed as a safer alternative to smoking, research shows that quitting vaping can be even trickier than quitting cigarettes. The chemicals and addictive patterns in vaping devices make the process more complex.

Here’s a suggestion: if you switch back to traditional cigarettes before our session, it can make it easier for us to address both habits during hypnosis. Then, we’ll work together to free you from both cigarettes and vapes for good.
